Biography

Weaving together electronic music and human connection, Kora is the musical project of Mikael B. Robillard. Born in Québec, his relationship with music began before his first breath – his mother placing headphones on her belly, sharing her favorite melodies with her unborn son.

Growing up between his grandmother's piano songs and his grandfather's jazzy whistling, Mikael developed classical piano training before exploring drumming in high school. A pivotal mentorship with Toronto producer Adam K opened the doors to electronic production, revealing new sonic possibilities.

Today, that spirit of sharing drives his work as a producer, DJ, and co-founder of Saisons Musique, a Montréal-based label inspired by nature's rhythmic cycles. His productions have found homes on prestigious labels including Bedrock Records (John Digweed's legendary label) with his "Soleil" EP, as well as Decca, Kindisch, Anjunadeep, and Sol Selectas. His remixes – notably for Ludovico Einaudi alongside Mercan Dede, as well as for Poranguí, Husa & Zeyada, and Hraach – showcase his ability to bridge electronic and acoustic worlds.

After seventeen years of sharing music for the dancefloor, his debut album "Azimuth" marked a profound evolution toward ambient and cinematic territories, exploring music as a tool for introspection and planetary healing. Recently, he launched a fundraiser for Pacific whales in collaboration with BC Whales, an ambient various artist album.

In live performance, Kora integrates cedar flutes, live keys and percussions to his electronic grooves. His performances have resonated across hundreds of cities in more than 30 countries over the last decade, from New York to Mumbai, Istanbul to Buenos Aires, Amman to Atitlán. With a desire to keep touring, Mikael is now equally inspired to nurture his roots at home in Québec.

A resident at the legendary Stereo Montréal, he recently participated in the 24-hour marathon alongside Patrice Bäumel and Hernán Cattáneo, and performed a live set alongside multi instrumentalist Poranguí. Passionate about sharing knowledge, Mikael actively teaches electronic music production online and in person, in Montréal and on the road.

Co-founder of the tree planting initiative Terre à Terre and having contributed to nearly 100 releases through Saisons Musique, Kora embodies a timeless truth – that in the space between sound and silence, we find not only ourselves, but our deepest connections to one another and to the earth.
